Be alert to scam messages

Be alert to possible scam text messages, WhatsApp messages and phone calls about repairs that are not from ISHA.

If you get an unexpected call from 'The Housing Disrepair Team' or similar, be very cautious about giving out your personal details.

An example scam

A scam we’ve heard of recently is where you are called by someone to arrange an 'appointment' (for a repair or something else). The caller then contacts you again later and explains that because they didn’t turn up, they will pay you compensation if you provide your bank account details. This is a scam.

Be careful about giving out personal information

Whatever the variation on the scam, what the scammer is trying to get is personal information from you that can be used in other scams, such as making purchases in your name, or they may be selling your details to other scammers.

ISHA does not use WhatsApp to contact residents and would never ask for information this way.

What to do if you're concerned

A recently used number associated with a repairs scam is 01612 433 064, but the numbers change all the time, so there are likely to be other numbers used as well. Numbers can also be easily spoofed.

If you're concerned about who's calling, hang up and phone us on 0300 131 7300, or email repairs@isha.co.uk.

We'll be able to tell you if there is a repair on our system for where you live, provide you with a reference number and give you more information about the repair itself, such as when it is due to be completed and the name of the contractor who will attend to carry out the repair.

Help other people and report scam text messages

For scam text messages, you can report them by forwarding the message 7726. It's a free service, and the phone company will investigate and can block further messages or calls.
